I’ve been an advocate of solving problems for a long time and alot of them from asus. You will find few people that have the same experience. I have been known to be wrong. To date we have shipped a large minority of g51j USA orders. If you expect me to believe that there is a beta bios floating around that is causing problems….. My own tests found on g51 is that it works totally fine using all original fail safe settings more times than I can count. If there is a problem with bios then call me dumb or misinformed. Also just skimming to the thread I noticed there are a few posters and many posts. I would like atleast one poster to do what I said above and allow me to remote connect.

Now I am forced to hope there is resolution. I can't return it without a restock fee, which is BS on a machine that won't work.

We do not charge a restock fee. we also make laptop preblems go away first because asus is isually last in fight. where did you buy your laptop. i posted a poll on nbr because seemingly the hundreds that bought this laptop from us did not complain.,

Ok, we're gonna rock n' roll on this. I'm reloading now. I am crossing my finger because outside of the games I am experiencing issues with, this machine totally rocks. ASUS made the best presentation of a new machine I've ever had.

I'm not taking sides on this issue but what kind of "user error" could there be? What could Tiger possibly be doing wrong when he installs a game and tries to play it?

user error is a very broad term. it could imply the user tampering, overclocking, installing bad driver to even doing something totally normal and common which cause the issue. the term user error is not blaming the user it is simply taking the blame away from a hardware defect. Identifying something as user error is a step closer to finding the cause. i have not done so yet however this is where i am leaning

even something like not downloading a patch that will make it work right i would define as user error. user error is basically everything but hardware defect. obviously the term does not sound awesome however i have no other way to describe it and make it sound pretty while using 2 words

can you install the following software and test your games
1. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...Name=&lang=eng
2. openal latest version. this would have been required for 3dmark to run fine.
i am just trying different things. i dont have a g51 that i can test so this is a bit cumbersome. please reply

so after trying to figure out all day i think we finally got the solution. you will need to install
1. the latest intel chipset update from intel.com
1. then install openal. this is also required for 3dmark to function in windows 7
this should take care of the stop 124 bsod in everquest and as far i think all the rest of the games having issues

Thanks to a lot of help from BtoTech, I have beaten the BSOD (at least in Everquest 2). It took tedious testing and a lot of one-step-at-a-time work. I appreciate the HOURS of work he spent with me on a Saturday for no reason other then wanting to help. (I didn't buy my machine here - however I will be considering BTO for future orders).

Anyway, it looks like I beat it by updating to the latest Intel Chipset drivers. Although it doesn't ask you to restart after the install, I advise it. Also, running 3DMark06 (NOT Vantage) will install OpenAL on a Win 7 machine. After installing this, so I could run 3DMark06, I have been able to consistently play.

To kind of double check our work, I returned to the load that was giving me issues. Sure enough the longest I could play was 21 minutes in 4 tests. This is very consistent with what brought me to the forum in the first place. and I couldn't get past that time. I made the changes to that existing load and now it isn't getting BSOD after 1 1-hour test and 1 2-hour test. I'll be leaving EQ2 up all night to do a final QA check tonight.

I haven't tested Borderlands, but that particular game is causing BSODs on other makes and models, so I'm not going to use that as a benchmark. I plan on reinstalling Dragon Age and seeing if that passes the test now.

thanks tiger. i think the emphasis should be on openal not on intel chipset update. Both should still be installed in that order as you mentioned. great work!

Is the spdif / 3.5 mm combo port a MINI TOSLINK one? Meaning i could plug my 5.1 dolby surround tritton headphones using a mini toslink digital optical cable ?

on the g51jx
yes the port does have a laser inside so theoretically the mini tos should work though i have not tried
